Under brilliant sunshine and steady seabreezes, the 54th Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels concluded on Saturday April 5th in spectacular fashion. A true celebration of Olympic class sailing, the regatta marked the first Grand Slam of the 2025 season and the official curtain-raiser to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle.

Great Britain’s Emma Wilson delivered a standout performance in the iQFOiL Women’s windsurfing class, securing gold after a week of consistent excellence. In doing so, Wilson was crowned the overall winner of the regatta – an honor awarded to the top performer across all 10 Olympic disciplines, based on a scoring formula that compares the relative dominance of each gold medallist.

Wilson’s victory capped one of the strongest showings by the British sailing team in the history of the Palma regatta, with nine medals – including five golds. It was an emotional moment for the double Olympic bronze medalist, after winning the iQFOiL International Games in Lanzarote and finishing third at the ones in Cadiz in the middle of March.

“I had a great week. I didn’t have too many expectations for this year but so far it’s gone pretty well,” said Wilson. “After the Olympics I had some good time off and worked out what I wanted to do. Now I feel like I’m really enjoying the windsurfing and being back with my friends on the course. The racing in Palma was fun, we got to try some light winds with the 7.3, which was really good to test, and we managed to get 19 races – which was pretty cool. The race committee did a great job. I’m super happy with my performance and to win the overall trophy was a big surprise – it seems crazy to me that I won it! Now I’m going to have some rest before I prepare for the world championships. Thanks to everyone who supports me!”

In the iQFOiL Men’s fleet, Australia’s Grae Morris, silver medalist at Paris 2024, confirmed his top form with a confident win, following the one he claimed in Cadiz at the iQFOiL International Games. He sealed gold in a single-race final under an experimental format, holding off tough competition from Italy and France:

“It’s an amazing feeling and hopefully I get to feel this a bit more in the future,” said Morris. “I’m grateful for the nice conditions and the fact that we had a good race to showcase to the rest of the world. It’s great to be out there on the start line with a great bunch of guys and just happy I came out on top here.”

The next big event for the Olympic classes is coming up soon with the Semaine Olympique in Hyeres, from April 19th to the 25th, and then on to the pinnacle of the season in Aarhus, Denmark, for the iQFOiL World Championship from July 4th to the 11th, not before the 2025 Kieler Woche – iQFOiL Games #3, Worlds Last Chance Qualifier (20–25 June).
